Enhance the Shopping Experience for School Platform

Things you need to know about Sekolah.mu

Sekolah.mu is the first blended learning school in Indonesia that integrates face-to-face and online learning to create a more effective, enjoyable, and meaningful educational experience. Sekolah.mu's future-ready curriculum is designed to encourage independent learning, collaboration, and creativity, enabling students to develop essential skills for the future.

To enhance the learning process, Sekolah.mu combines digital learning materials (such as video lessons and interactive games), non-digital learning kits, and innovative final projects. These elements provide students with engaging and impactful learning experiences.

Why the team did this?

Despite these strengths, the shopping experience on the Sekolah.mu platform was found to be sub-optimal. Preliminary research revealed that the majority of users, particularly parents, experienced significant difficulties in navigating the purchasing process. Key findings include:

  • 3 out of 5 parent users found it difficult to purchase learning packages, after-school courses and add-ons because they could not be purchased together in one transaction.

  • Users lacked flexibility as they had to complete multiple checkouts separately, which was time consuming.

  • Users incurred higher administrative fees due to repeated transactions.

What we did to act on it

Through iterative testing and feedback, we refined the system to deliver a feature that truly met user expectations.

Behind the scenes

Innovation begins with collaboration. Our team worked tirelessly to develop this feature, balancing functionality with an easy-to-use design.

Last but not least, some of our experiments in the process of working on this project.

Key takeaways

  • A stepping stone: This project was a stepping stone for me as it was my first 'professional' project. It was also the first project that we, as interns, did completely on our own.

  • Understanding the complexity of payments: Payment systems are anything but simple. From dealing with transaction limits and implementing timers for expired transactions to addressing the importance of timing in online shopping, we learned to account for edge cases and ensure the system met both technical and user needs.

  • Dealing with parents is challenging: Working with parents was not easy. We often had to reschedule interviews because they cancelled just hours before the scheduled time.

Shotout to

This project would not have been possible without the dedication and talent of an amazing team. Thanks to Musa & Dyiono (Product Manager Interns) for being the driving force behind this project. Thareq & Zahra (Product Researcher Interns) for their thorough research and valuable insights. To all our mentors, thank you for your guidance and support throughout our internship. Finally, a big thank you to everyone who has supported us behind the scenes, providing encouragement, feedback and expertise throughout this journey.
